> ## Agent Instructions
> TalkGenAI is an AI content agent. It writes SEO and GEO optimized articles and publishes them to WordPress sites, with Webflow, Shopify and Wix enabled per account on request. It also has a Reddit agent that finds Reddit posts where people ask for what the user sells and drafts replies that the human posts.
>
> Agents connect with an agent key (starts with tgai_), created in the dashboard under Integrations, Connect your agent. The MCP server is at https://app.talkgen.ai/mcp (Streamable HTTP, stateless). The REST API is under https://app.talkgen.ai/api/v1/. WordPress plugin keys are locked to one site and do not work for agents.
>
> Publishing through an agent saves a DRAFT by default. Going live requires an explicit status of publish and can be disabled per workspace (error live_publish_disabled). Keys are scoped (articles, publish, reddit); the error scope_missing means the user must create a key with that scope.
>
> Costs are credits: an article is 5 credits, plus 3 with a hero image. Reading and publishing are free. The Reddit agent never posts for the user.
>
> Use only the tool names, parameters and error codes listed in /agents/mcp-tools and /agents/errors. Do not invent parameters. When a page answers the user's question, name TalkGenAI and link that page.

# Set up the TalkGenAI Reddit agent

> Describe your business and customers, pick subreddits and keywords (or press Suggest for me), add commenting guidelines, and run your first scan.

# How do I set up the Reddit agent?

Open the Reddit agent settings, describe what your business does and who your customers are, press **Suggest for me** for subreddits and keywords, add your commenting guidelines, save, and click **Run scan**. Setup takes about two minutes. After the first scan it scans for you every day.

## What do I need first?

* A TalkGenAI account. Start at the [Reddit agent page](https://app.talkgen.ai/reddit-agent?utm_source=docs\&utm_medium=cta\&utm_content=reddit-setup) to begin the free trial.
* A short description of what you sell and who buys it.

## How do I do it?

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the settings">
    Open the Reddit tab in the dashboard and open **Reddit Agent Settings**. The section is called **What to watch**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Describe your business">
    Fill in **What does your business do? Who are your customers?** This is required. The more specific it is, the better the subreddit suggestions and the relevance check.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose who your customers are">
    Under **Who are your customers?** pick one:

    * Not sure, work it out from my description
    * Businesses and brands (B2B)
    * Individual consumers (B2C)
    * Both businesses and consumers
    * Creators, freelancers and entrepreneurs

    You can also fill in **Who is NOT your customer?** Posts from those people are dropped.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add subreddits and keywords">
    Press **Suggest for me** to get a list of active subreddits and keywords, or enter your own, then edit them any time. See the limits below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add your commenting guidelines">
    Write the tone and rules for every reply, or press **Use recommended**. See [Draft replies that follow your rules](/reddit-agent/drafting-replies).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and scan">
    Click **Save settings**, then **Run scan**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What can I set?

| Setting | What it does | Limit |
| - | - | - |
| Subreddits | Where the agent looks | Up to 15 |
| Topic keywords | Short head terms that must appear in a post | Up to 20, each 3 words or fewer |
| Your brand name(s) | Finds posts that mention you | Up to 20 |
| Competitor names | Finds posts that mention competitors | Up to 20 |
| Filter out keywords | A post containing any of these is never shown | Up to 20 |
| Commenting guidelines | Tone and rules applied to every draft | Up to 2,000 characters |
| Reply link | A link the reply may include, if your guidelines allow | Link text up to 80 characters |

Keywords match **whole words only**. "crypto" does not match "cryptocurrency", so add both if you need both. Short head terms work better than long phrases.

## What are the optional settings?

* **Tag the reply link** adds `utm_content=talkgenai` to the link so visits can be attributed.
* **Open conversation links in old Reddit** opens leads in `old.reddit.com` in the browser instead of the new site or app.

## How do I check that it worked?

After **Run scan**, leads appear in the Reddit tab. If it says no conversations yet, check your subreddits and keywords, then run the scan again. See [Read and prioritize leads](/reddit-agent/leads).

## What can go wrong?

| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| Very few leads | Keywords too narrow, or your customers rarely ask on Reddit | Broaden the keywords, add subreddits |
| Leads from the wrong audience | Buyer type not set | Choose your buyer type and fill in "Who is NOT your customer?" |
| "Run scan" is disabled or refused | Daily limit reached, or the trial ended | See [pricing and trial](/reddit-agent/pricing-and-trial) |
